Emma came to us after seeing our photos from WI Bride feature on the Bridle Barn Styled Shoot we did last Spring. She wanted the softness of the lace on the pergola, but she also wanted to make it different than a traditional barn wedding. When we started discussing mood boards and inspiration, it was like we shared the same brain! Our style choices intertwine slate, cement, mossy greens, charcoals, and industrial accents with feminine touches of lace and pops of wine colored rubicon roses throughout. We are even creating giant macrame hanging ring displays and sunbursts with vines on the pergola! With the very talented Donna Sager of Garden Laurels by Sager working on the florals, we know that it will be a unique and stunning masterpiece.
We simply can't wait to see it all unfold! Read on to hear about Emma and Austin's true love story that started from a very young age!
How did you meet?
Austin and I have actually known each other since middle school. Our story begins on a bus headed to the planetarium for a school field trip. I had wicked cool feathered bangs and braces so naturally he asked me to go steady or whatever the heck we called it back then. That lasted for a couple of weeks, like typical middle school “relationships” do and we remained good friends. Once we got to high school we sort of drifted ways but our parents stayed in contact and we had a lot of mutual friends. I eventually moved to Milwaukee for college and Austin stayed in Madison. On my 21st birthday, some friends of mine got together to celebrate and a mutual friend of ours (the Best Man in our wedding) brought Austin with him. Our friendship rekindled and over the course of a year we were dating. Eight years later, here we are! Kind of crazy to think he has known me for more than half of my life!!
How did you get engaged?
It’s super funny actually - totally us! We are both terrible gift givers, me especially. We get anxious and immediately want to give the other person their gift. Austin had an original engagement plan that was elaborate and involved going to our favorite coffee shop in Milwaukee where we often went during the first couple months of dating. However, after he purchased the ring he got antsy he ended up popping the question on our way to dinner one night. It was so perfect and so us! We never made it to dinner and headed straight for my mothers
What do you look forward to most about your wedding day?
I most look forward to sharing the experience with the people closest to us. It is going to be family and close friends only so it will be very intimate. I am trying to keep things as low stress as possible so that the day can be enjoyed by everyone, including Austin and I!
What do you look forward to most about being married?
We have been together for 8 years so I already feel like we are married lol! But in all seriousness, I am looking forward to a lifetime of commitment and adventures with Austin. Each year we get stronger as a couple so it is exciting to think of what things will be like in 10, 15 or 30 years!
