We were honored to be chosen to work on Nima and David's wedding slated for May 28th of next year at the Edgewater Hotel. With their hectic schedules (both are doctors!) and the fact that they are out of town, we want to make their day as stress free and gorgeous as possible. They have the most amazing style choices and we are excited to marry together an East Indian wedding with some romantic vintage touches. Here's the low down on the love of Nima and David!
HOW THEY MET:
(NIMA) My first ever introduction with Dave was quite hilarious. I met him my second semester at SGU in Grenada through a mutual friend. It was the end of a night out and I was rounding everyone up to head home when I ran into Dave and one of his roommates in a corner table at the bar. All I can remember about that initial impression was "jeez these guys look so old!". Mind you, David and I are only 3 years apart. After that, I kept seeing Dave quite often when our social circles hung out and we became good friends...and he didn't look so old anymore (must've been the bad lighting I guess). One Friday, I was studying at the library - I was a big nerd on the island - when my girlfriends coaxed me to go out to Fish Friday that Dave was setting up. Fish Friday is a boating trip to the village of Gouyave, the hometown of Olympian Kirani James, that's popular amongst the students at SGU. Normally, you leave to go there on a catamaran around sunset, enjoy drinks on the ride there, and then get the ultimate Grenadian experience complete with local food, music, arts & crafts, and even fish flavored ice cream! My roommates told me everyone and their brother was going. So not wanting to be left out, I quickly packed up my books and called Dave to see if he had one more spot on the boat and not to leave without me. By the time we got to the catamaran, I was so confused because the only people going were me, Dave, his handful of friends and a bunch of strangers none of us knew. Turned out my roommates had pranked me just to get me out of the library.
In the end, the night turned out to be the best date I’d ever been on without it really even being a date. Dave and I ended up hanging out the whole night, talking and laughing. We had so much fun. We started dating soon after that. However, things weren’t smooth sailing (see what I did there) at first. I actually broke up with him after a couple months.
But as fate would have it, I messaged him one Tuesday night telling him I wanted to talk. So he drove over at 1 in the morning and we walked around campus talking. He eventually lead me to my mailbox and told me to open it. Inside was a poem he had left me a couple days prior that I just hadn’t picked up yet. He walked me to the dock and under the rain, read me the most heartfelt poem I have ever heard. It was beyond romantic. We got back together that night and as they say, the rest is history. That dock became very special to us. On November 11, 2012, I told Dave I loved him for the first time on that dock.
That is how the story of us began.
HOW THEY GOT ENGAGED:
(NIMA) So back in Feb-March of 2015, Dave and I went back to Grenada to complete our medical school rotations. We were having trouble finding rotations in NY so we thought why not just go back to Grenada. It would be fun to return to the Island we had fondly begun calling our second home. So we spent 2 whole months on the island and Dave waits until the second to last day to propose haha! Right before we returned. I guess he had been planning and waiting for a Tuesday (see above). So on Tuesday March 31,2015, on the dock that was very special to us (the same place I said "I love you" to Dave for the first time) Dave proposed to me with a $6 Grenadian glass ring.
WHAT THEY LOOK FORWARD TO MOST ON THEIR WEDDING DAY:
(NIMA) Well I guess since we've already been engaged for over a year now...um..our wedding!
(DAVID) Seeing Nim walk down the aisle and saying our vows in church in front of immediate family. Also just the days prior to the wedding and having all of our loved ones together! Putting a ring on it! Having a moment or two alone with Nim hopefully surrounded by beautiful scenery and peace/quiet so we can reflect on our journey.
WHAT THEY LOOK FORWARD TO ABOUT MARRIED LIFE:
(NIMA) The wedding planning to be over! Haha. I can't wait to be able to call Dave my husband :) And to be able to check "married" on applications. To have a marriage license (that means I'll legally be binded to Dave!). To have human children one day. We've been together for over 4 years, live together and have 2 dogs so life is already a lot like being married, but there's still those few things that only married people get to do that I look forward to.
